Ok, let’s get it over with right from the start: security is and has always been the proverbial “Achilles Heel” in cloud vendor portfolios and, with all due respect to this week’s double-edged sword (or kudos to Governor Chris Christie’s 20 point re-election win in New Jersey), it’s also always been the “elephant in the room.” In other words, something that’s not discussed freely but, on the other hand, something you just can’t ignore or ultimately avoid.
No longer though. Not when it comes to Venyu, at least.
In fact, if you subscribe to the classic trope of “you can’t manage what you can’t measure” you can probably appreciate its security-based counterpart that your servers and IT environment are only as secure as the controls you’ve put in place. In fact, according to varying industry sources, 85% of all breaches were opportunistic in nature and 96% of all breaches were completely avoidable had the business put the proper controls in place.
Part of Venyu’s Sentinel Security Suite, Web Security Manager (WSM) provides an enhanced layer of security to block suspicious traffic at the firewall and appliance level and protect Web servers from attacks without compromising site availability.
Venyu’s Web Security Manager offering provides an alternative to Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) that often impact web site availability by blocking legitimate traffic while requiring expert care to fine tune effectiveness. Running in the company’s cloud environment as a virtual solution (VMware vSphere®), WSM diagnoses traffic at the http, https and SSL level to provide a simple, fully-managed Intrusion Prevention System with little to no capital expenses or software upgrades while providing an enhanced layer of security to block suspicious traffic at the firewall and appliance level and protect Web servers from attacks without compromising site availability.
In addition to blocking suspicious web traffic, the WSM offering also provides 24×7 Security Operations Center (SOC) monitoring and incident escalation services from Alert Logic’s certified security analyst team.
WSM and its features are the initial fruits derived from Venyu’s partnership announced earlier this Fall with security-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions provider Alert Logic. The agreement enables Venyu to embed data protection from Alert Logic through the integrated delivery of intrusion detection and log management, all with the added benefit of a 24/7 security operations center staffed by certified analysts. This includes:
- Threat Manager with ActiveWatch — Using intelligent multifactor correlation, Threat Manager identifies suspicious activity in network traffic. After validation by a Level 1 SOC analyst, customers are notified with recommended actions and responses.
- Log Manager — Log Manager collects, aggregates, and normalizes log data whether it originates on premise, in a hosted environment, or within the cloud.
- Log Review — LogReview includes integrated review and case management capabilities that enable a SMB to track and report on incident trends. Built-in workflow and case management tools provide an auditable trail of any suspicious findings and give a historical perspective of the entire security and compliance operations
Web Security Manager protects data both in the cloud and in public-facing instances, said Scott Thompson, Chief Executive Officer,Venyu. “Venyu’s new WSM offering is a strategic defense solution that hardens a company’s exposed web front end against hackers. Provided in the same manner as our threat manager and log manager services, the WSM offering is 100 percent software based for rapid setup and deployment – simplifying cloud-based security solutions by removing hardware maintenance and service costs.”
And, parenthetically of course, making you feel better about how safe your data is in the cloud.
