Someone’s finally said it. Writing in Express Computer, Subhankar Kundu makes the case, succinctly, on how companies can prevent pervasive data leaks: Encrypt Everything.
According to Kundu, that includes encrypting data on everything from hard drives, flash drives, e-mail and data in transit. He builds his case for blanket encryption methodically and informatively, moving from its genesis as IPsec (a protocol suite for securing IP communications by authenticating and encrypting each IP packet of a data stream), to emerging solutions in endpoint security. He even goes so far (and rightly so), in recommending companies adopt encryption as a centralized policy: “For large organizations, data security is not an option, it’s essential. While there are many different security mechanisms, data encryption is perhaps the most effective with regard to protecting confidential information. Most organizations are enforcing data encryption in their centralized IT policy.” This is as essential a read as I’ve found on encryption in a while. Highly recommended.
