For those who believe a “set it and forget it” mindset helps achieve sound disaster recovery planning, I invite them to read this recent entry in the industry blog, Security Vulnerability Assessment. The upshot of the article suggests that as your business changes to meet the dynamics of a constantly-changing business world, so too must your DR plan be continuously assessed and monitored to ensure it remains relevant to the needs of the business. As the author of this article suggests, “No disaster recovery (DR) plan can truly be said to be finished until it is tested. If not in real-life, then in the most stringent assessment and testing regime that can be mounted. The stakes are high because your business is at risk.” Words to the wise perhaps for those who understand that even the most well-thought out, forward-looking business continuity plans require constant diligence and the ability to adapt to change, if only in the interest of staying slightly ahead of your organization’s next unexpected U-turn.
